University of Rijeka

The University of Rijeka was founded in 1973 as a logical expansion of higher education institutions in western Croatia whose roots date back to the 17th century when the Rijeka Jesuit gymnasium was established. From its founding it has undergone a series of transformations which were for the most part the result of changes brought on by the national higher education policies.

The aim of all study programmes at the University of Rijeka is to provide students with sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge so they can successfully proceed to become a part of either the corporate or academic world upon completing any given study programme.

Student mobility and accompanying academic recognition are deemed as necessary prerequisites for an open and dynamic European education area that will help facilitate European integration as well as employment market mobility. The University of Rijeka strongly encourages and facilitates student mobility through the Erasmus programme.

The University of Rijeka joined this program in 2009 and since then has signed over 315 Erasmus bilateral agreements with universities from the majority of EU countries. This cooperation includes students and staff exchange. In five academic years more than 500 University of Rijeka students and 60 staff members participated in Erasmus.

Its vision targets the inclusion of the University of Rijeka within the top 500 European Universities, thus it has committed itself to dynamic development which systematically facilitates mobility and the development of research careers while providing each individual with an opportunity to express their talents and entrepreneurial energy.
